Frequently Asked Questions

Are you neurodivergent yourself
Yes! I bring a lived experience perspective to my therapy and coaching. Many clients have fedback to me that therapy has felt very different to past experiences because working with an autistic therapist reduces the double empathy problem. I don't make assumptions about anyone's experiences, however there are often similarities that can help break down barriers when normalised or validated by someone who lives it too.

I'm not sure yet if I'm autistic/ADHD but want to talk to someone about it
Absolutely! I have worked with a variety clients in vey different places in their journey, but what they all share is a curiosity about themselves and a need to understand if neurodivergence has shaped their life. That's all that's required! We can figure out the rest.

Can you assess/diagnose me?
No, I cannot assess or diagnose autism or ADHD. This can only be done by a psychiatrist or HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologist or Speech & Language Therapist. I can refer you on to private individuals or organisations that offer this service.

How many sessions will I need?
It's not easy to put a number on a therapeutic process, but we can work according to your needs. I usually suggest doing 4-6 sessions initially then we can review from there. If you are wanting coaching to work on something very specific and time limited then 6 sessions can be helpful.

Do I need a formal ADHD/Autism diagnosis to work with you?
No, a diagnosis is not needed to work with me. People reach out to me at a variety of different stages in their neurodivergent self-discovery. From thinking about yourself through this new lens, all the way through to supporting you during and after your assessment (if that's what you want) I can offer support and a space to process.

What is 'neuroaffirming therapy' and how can it help me?
Neuroaffirming therapy is therapy that affirms the neurodivergent experience. This means removing the pathological, 'deficit' lens many therapists have been trained to use in regards to Autism and ADHD, and seeing the whole person. I do not try to 'fix' anyone because I don't believe neurodivergent people are broken. ND-affirming therapy should also take into account different needs, sensory preferences, and creating a collaborative space that allows you to feel seen and accepted.
